Analog vs Digital Phones

Analog Phones:

  • Also known as Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS), these lines uses RJ 11 jack are analog support standard phones.
  •  Analog technology works by translating audio (your voice) into electronic pulses. 

Advantages and uses:
  • Works even when power is off.
  • Simple to use and it has low initial maintainence costs.
  • Used in homes.

Digital Phones:

  • Also known as Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) is a set of communication standards for simultaneous digital transmission of voice and data, uses RJ 11 jack are digital support standard phones.
  • Digital technology works, converting audio into digits ( 0's and 1's ) at one end and then decoding those numbers back into audio at the other end.

Advantages and uses:
  • More options than analog like to save contacts and display screen.
  • Can transmit data and voice.
  • Low costs than a analog while making long distance calls.
  • Used in offices.

IP phones:

  • Also known as  Voice Over Internet Protocol ( VoIP ) uses the internet rather than telephone networks to place phone calls. 
  • It is a type of digital phone but uses RJ 45 ( LAN ) cable and offers advanced features than analog and digital.
Advantages and uses:
  • Most advanced than analog or digital.
  • Best for business applications.
